If you come to your hotel early and bring your own bikes, you have the opportunity to explore Svendborg city or already start your island hopping holiday in the South Funen archipelago. From Svendborg you can take the ferry to Drejø, Skarø or Hjortø. If you are up for a short cycle ride, we have created a cycle route for you that takes you around South East Funen, where there are several small producers of good beer, must, wine and spirits.

Overnight in Svendborg.

Today it is obvious to go on a longer trip. We suggest a cycle trip to Tåsinge via Thurø, and we have made it ready in our material for you. From Thurø you can enjoy a sailing trip with the veteran ship M/S Helge, which takes you to Tåsinge, where Valdemars Castle is located (The trip with M/S Helge is your own payment and for incl. in the price). The route from the ferry to Valdemars Castle offers cozy half-timbered houses, small farm shops and Ambrosiusegen – a 400-year-old oak tree. As you cycle along the peaceful roads, you will pass breathtaking nature and beautiful views. It is also here at Tåsinge that you can get the story of the tragic love story between Elvira Madigan and Sixten Sparre. They died here and are buried, and the local museum has an exhibition with the history.

Along the way around the short or long trip to Tåsinge, you can also stop at the cozy harbor Skovballe Havn and enjoy the fresh sea air. For us, a visit is equal to a visit to Svendborgsund Brewery. It is at the end of the trip, so a little liquid may be needed.

Accommodation Svendborg.

Today the trip goes by ferry from Svendborg to Ærøskøbing on Ærø. All over the island you will find farm shops selling vegetables, fruit and honey, among other things. In Ærøskøbing, the narrow cobbled streets and half-timbered houses with hollyhocks make you almost feel like you are in the 19th century. Remember to buy the most amazing licorice confectionery at Hattesens Konfektfabrik at the harbor in Ærøskøbing. On Vesterstrand in Ærøskøbing are the colorful bathhouses, and you will of course visit them before you continue southeast along the coast to Marstal.

Before you arrive at your hotel, the route offers a tour of the city and to the good bathing beach Eriks Hale beach. If there is time for more, the Maritime Museum is worth a visit, or you can cycle towards the center of the island. Note that the bus on Ærø is free.

Accommodation Marstal

Today the trip goes along Ærø's beautiful coastline from Marstal to Søby. On the trip you will experience Bregninge Church, the natural gem Voderup Klint and the protected Vitsø Mill. During the entire trip, you are never far from the beach or a cozy bench with a good view. Ærø has many small producers of all kinds of exciting products, so don't miss this before you leave the island. In our guidebook we tell you about the possibilities.

Midway on the trip is Ærø's own brewery, which you find with a small detour from the coastal cycle route. Lunch can be bought here, but remember to check opening times. At the end of the trip towards Søby, you reach the historic manor house Søbygård, located in the middle of a lake. In Søby, the ferry sails to Fåborg, where today's lovely hotel night awaits.

Accommodation Faaborg.

The day offers several possibilities. Fåborg is a cozy and charming town with a harbor and a harbor bath, and there are several very interesting museums in the town. We have made a cycle tour that takes you to Svanninge Bakker, which is one of the most exciting natural areas on Funen. On the way there, you pass Kaleko Mølle, known among other things from the Christmas calendar Nissebanden, and you also pass the small village of Diernæs. Along the route there are beautiful forests and a highlight is the castle Brahetrolleborg with, in season, the most beautiful rhodendron park. From Brahetrolleborg you can, with a good eye or binoculars, see the world-famous in Denmark, Jim Lyngvild's viking castle, Ravnsborg. The route is 25 km.

If you really want to make the most of the day, you should go island hopping to the small scenic island of Avernakø. Here you can experience good bathing beaches, fishing waters, the special beer life and a rich bird life. The route on Avernakø is 16 km. Remember to check ferry times.

Overnight in Fåborg. 

Today you are cycling from Faaborg to Svendborg on this last stretch of the cycling holiday. On the way to Svendborg, you cycle on an idyllic route along the coastline, but you also pass Holstenshuus Castle with its impressive park and two giant trees, the so-called Sequias.

Along the way, there are many nice little places where you can take a break both in forests and at viewpoints or at one of the small cozy harbors you pass on the route.

The last stretch towards the hotel in Svendborg you pass Lehnskov Estate and cycle almost at the water's edge. At Rantzausminde harbor before the town of Svendborg appears, you can end the trip with an ice cream or whatever you fancy.

Overnight in Svendborg.

You have reached the end of the trip, and that means soaking up the last of Funen's coziness and romance.

Enjoy the beautiful natural areas around the hotel with a walk along the water, or visit the city's cozy streets and wonderful cafes. If you have time on the way home, you should visit Egeskov Castle or you can make a stop in Odense and visit the HC Andersen exhibition, Denmark's Railway Museum, Odense Zoo and the interesting open-air museum, Den Fynske Village. The Funen capital exudes coziness and idyll and is definitely worth a visit.
